INVITATION TO JOIN NMA
As the president and CEO of the National Mining Association, I have the honor and privilege of leading an organization that represents one of the nation's most important basic industries. Simply stated, mining is vital to America. Mined products provide the raw materials fundamental to the manufacture and production of virtually all the products used in modern society. Our industry has a significant impact on the nation's economy and is important to everyday life.
During this past year, NMA implemented a significant restructuring in order to refocus initiatives, staff and programs to advance mining's agenda in the 21st Century. The Board adapted a new strategic initiative designed to bring together mining's diverse but related cultures into a program of support, cooperation and unity; and to accurately convey the industry's modern, technologically advanced and environmentally responsible practices. Successfully achieving these objectives will not only build political support for mining, but increase public awareness regarding the vital role mining plays in America's economy, national security and quality of life.
The mining industry today sits squarely in the middle of some of the most complex, controversial and challenging public policy debates. Issues relating to the mining process, energy and minerals policy, land access and environmental protection dominate the political agenda. Resolution of these issues will define the future of mining in the United States.
For NMA to succeed, it must be able to harness and mobilize the economic and political power of the entire mining industry. Success on Capitol Hill requires a comprehensive and unified effort by mining companies, equipment manufacturers and other businesses that provide supplies and services to the industry. Every company that has a stake in the future of mining should consider becoming a member of NMA.

Sincerely,
Kraig R. Naasz
