Clean Coal Technology
Clean Coal Technology Fact Sheet
As a vital part of present and future U.S. economic and energy security, coal is the source of half of the nation's electricity generation. Based on U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data, coal will continue as the largest single source of electricity supply through 2025 and beyond. Clean coal technologies (CCT) are the products of extensive research and development by industry and government over the past 20 years that have resulted in more than 20 new, lower-cost, more efficient and environmentally compatible technologies for electric utilities, steel mills and/or cement plants among other industries.
CCT makes it possible for U.S. utilities to provide more affordable energy choices to Americans while continuing to meet more stringent environmental regulations, ensuring the bright future of our nation's most plentiful energy resource.
