Reclamation in Alaska

In April 2021, Kinross Alaska announced a partnership with Trout Unlimited on the Alaska Abandoned Mine Restoration Initiative, which is the first partnership of its kind in Alaska. Kinross, a major mining company, and the Trout Unlimited conservation organization are working alongside federal and state land-management agencies to restore the environment and mitigate the impact of historic mining operations.

The first project, a restoration of Resurrection Creek, will help to restore a 2.2-mile segment of Resurrection Creek, which is located on the northern end of the Kenai Peninsula near Hope, Alaska. It’s the site of one of Alaska’s first gold rushes. Kinross has made a $540,000 donation to the project, and the partnership commemorated the occasion on August 13. But the partnership won’t end there. Kinross and Trout Unlimited have big plans to build on as they continue to reclaim mining land and restore the environment.
