NMA BOARD ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
WASHINGTON Ronald C. Cambre, chairman and chief executive
officer of Newmont Mining Corp. in Denver, was elected to serve
as chairman of the National Mining Association, the principal trade
association of the U.S. mining industry. Cambre succeeds outgoing
Chairman Steven F. Leer, president and chief executive officer of
St. Louis-based Arch Coal Inc.
J. Brett Harvey, president and chief executive officer of CONSOL
Inc. in Pittsburgh, was elected vice chairman of the association.
John S. Brinzo, chairman and chief executive officer of Cleveland-Cliffs
Inc in Cleveland, was elected to serve as chairman of NMA's audit
and finance committee whose members include C.E. Bryant Jr. of Continental
Conveyor & Equipment Co.; Joseph W. Craft III of Alliance Coal,
LLC; Bruce Farmer of Kennecott Utah Copper Corp.; Gregory P. Fauquier
of Barrick Goldstrike Mines Inc.; James F. Roberts of RAG American
Coal Holding Inc.; and Carl W. Smith of AMVEST Minerals Co.
Jack N. Gerard was elected to succeed the retiring Richard L. Lawson
as association president. Harold P. Quinn Jr., NMA's senior vice
president, legal and regulatory affairs and general counsel, was
re-elected association secretary, and Nori Jones, NMA's senior vice
president, finance and administration, was named treasurer.
The U.S. mining industry produces coal, metals, building materials,
and many other essential minerals that define the daily lives of
267 million Americans. The mining industry generates over $500 billion
in total economic benefit each year and helps to sustain nearly
5 million U.S. jobs.
